Microtransit can potentially offer greater efficiency and more equitable service than ride-hailing services, and it may fill gaps in traditional transit services. Aiming to fill this gap, in 2021, researchers at the University of California, Davis conducted focus groups and an online survey of SmaRT Ride adopters and users of other means of transportation in the Sacramento area.

What factors could strengthen or discourage a microtransit adopter to continue to use it? Who are these early adopters of microtransit? Guided by the theory of planned behavior, this study aims to fill the gap by conducting a large-scale survey focus on microtransit adopters and other means of transportation users in the Sacramento area of California in 2021 to address these research questions.

This dataset is derived from online and intercept surveys were conducted among underserved populations to understand their travel behavior, focusing on SmaRT Ride, a microtransit pilot program operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) in the Sacramento area.

This project evaluates a broad range of factors influencing microtransit adoption and travel behavior among underserved populations using original revealed choice survey data collected from February – May 2024 with online and intercept surveys.

What factors could work as facilitators or barriers in their willingness to adopt microtransit? Who are the early adopters of microtransit? Guided by the theory of planned behavior, this study aims to fill the gap in knowledge by conducting a large-scale survey of microtransit adopters and users of other means of transportation in the Sacramento area of California in 2021.
